May 7 2014

On May 7th 1945 a shooting took place at the Dam square in Amsterdam. Around 3.00 PM a festive crowd was in joyful expectation of the appearance of the Canadian liberators. Instead the Germans opened fire on the crowd from the windows of the Groote Club, resulting in dozens of dead and wounded people.

This shooting has never been formally investigated. We, a group of relatives of the victims, are now cooperating with genealogists and researchers to try and find the names of all the victims.

On May 7, 2015 we, the survivors, relatives and the members of the research team, want to unveil a memorial with all the victims’ names on it.

In addition, we are trying to find as many details as possible of this dark episode in history.
For this purpose, a foundation was formed:
Memorial Foundation 2015 Damslachtoffers May 7, 1945
email: dam07051945@gmail.com

We appreciate any help and support you may give us. We speciffically need funds to purchase historical material, to maintain the website and last but not least for the memorial plaquette itself.
